Meet BAML Director Precious Capiral.

What's been your experience with The D10?

I know it may sound corny, but The D10 has truly changed my life. As a 4’11”, sub-110lb woman, I am generally considered petite. When you look at me, “strong” is probably not one of the first words that comes to mind. I used to share that sentiment. I used to have insecurities around being small, which translated into low self-confidence. That… Read More

Jade Dean: I like showing that Moms can be fit too!

W680 unnamed How do you balance being a mother of two with training for an event like The D10?
I signed up for The D10 literally one week after my second son was born, as part of a commitment I made to carve out some time for myself amidst the craziness of motherhood.  Looking back, it still seems crazy to me that I signed up so abruptly, but I’ve even surprised myself with my newfound discipline. Now I can look forward to celebrating the completion of The D10 alongside my youngest son’s first birthday in the same week in June.

It’s been

Michael Ortiz: Every Soldier Needs Three Square Meals

Thumb michael ortiz

In the winter of Sophomore year in college, I remember sitting in my dorm and stressing over finals. Reaching my saturation point one particular evening, I decided to go for a walk and went to the mailroom, where, to my surprise, I had a package. It was from my grandfather. I opened it when I got back to my dorm and discovered it was a care package, something I’d never received before.

On top was a note that read, "Every soldier needs three square meals." It was touching to me because it was exactly what I needed that week, and… Read More

This a personal cause for me. Fourteen years ago I lost my father to cancer. When he was diagnosed, there were no treatment options available. Since then, thanks to the amazing work by Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and the charitable efforts from people like supporters of The D10, successful treatment options for my father's and many other types of cancer are now in place.

It's not just a personal cause--it's a personal challenge.

During my father’s final year, I was on five months’ bed rest with IV medication resulting from a staph infection caused by my third (of six total) reconstructive knee surgeries. Read More

Why do you compete in The D10?

I choose to compete with The D10 because of the amazing professional and athletic community it brings together. Not only does it support such a meaningful cause, it also brings together an awesome group of people who want to encourage one another to reach their goals. For me personally, it was such a transformational experience because I’ve reached athletic and fundraising goals I

What does it take to prepare for The D10?
Carbs!
I am definitely not joking – we athletes need to fuel the furnace constantly to build muscle. But on a more serious note, preparing for the D10 requires a level of vulnerability that continuously pushes me out of my comfort zone in the best way possible.

Why is it worth it?
Carbs.

Hahaha--
No, The D10 family is unlike any other

If you think that hitting the gym hard in the morning means a free pass to glue yourself to your office chair all day, think again. Regardless of your workout intensity, sitting for long stretches of time can predispose you for exercise injury that can keep you from the gym altogether.

Human beings were not designed to spend 8 hours a day hunching over a computer. A recent study has linked sitting for longer than 30 minutes at a time with a higher risk of all-cause mortality. More
