Meet the Decathletes: Andrew Belsky
April 27, 2015
1. Please tell us the name of your firm, title, and describe your role in one sentence. I work at Rosemawr Management, an alternative investment advisor that focuses on US Municipal securities. I am an investment analyst, assisting in the sourcing and evaluation of new investment opportunities.
2. What are your fundraising and athletic goals for The Decathlon, and what led you to choose them? While my fundraising event is dips, my vertical jump declined from 2012 to 2014, so I am hoping to bring it back to par. As a team, we are tasked with raising over $10,000, which I hope my teammates and I can surpass significantly.
3. On average, a Decathlete receives donations from 34 supporters. What fundraising technique(s) have worked best for you that you would recommend to first-time participants? I have found my family and friends to be excellent megaphones for my fundraising. While this “technique” ultimately resides with one’s family’s desire help build a fundraising network, I don’t doubt that they will be happy to help you access their network of friends / colleagues. Put simply, leverage your peoples’ people!
4. Most Decathletes have participated in mud runs, 5k’s, and triathlons. What differentiates The Wall Street Decathlon experience from those other events? I have competed the past three years and my favorite memory, each time, has been the final stretch of the 800m run. You’re so grateful to have finished the day, and you find a lot of camaraderie with your peers when all is done. While the Decathlon is an extremely participant-centric event, it really is a gestalt (the whole is greater than the sum of its parts).
5. What’s the one piece of advice about The Decathlon that you’d share with first-time participants? First, for both training and fundraising, start early (if you’re reading this, it is NOT too late…. But it’s getting there…). Second, as much as you should be focused on your performance, be ready to make a bunch of new friends, as the participants are often great people.
