Bucky Aronoff: This Is Our Mission
May 12, 2019
The D10 Athlete Profile explores what brings competitors to The D10 playing field...and what they bring away from it.

2019 Marquee event: 500M Row
What's your athletic background?
I played soccer at a pretty high level throughout high school. I was on a top-25 team in the country, playing in national showcases and tournaments. I also played tennis for two years. In middle school, I was big into martial arts and karate and became one of the youngest black belts at my studio.
But I grew up with a soccer ball at my feet. In high school, I was four-year varsity, two years captain. I played varsity four years at Muhlenberg College, and now I play for a semi-pro team in New York City.
Who was your soccer idol?
I play center back, and I'm a lefty, so: Roberto Carlos, no question. I like to get forward, and be involved in the attack. I've always worn number 3 or 6 when I get the chance.
How did you get involved in The D10?
I played soccer with Lance [Dotzman], three of my four years at Muhlenberg, so I had met Eric [Vishnevetsky] numerous times. From the periphery, I was very impressed.
When I learned about the goal Eric had set, it didn't resonate at first. As I became more familiar, everything set in. Eric's very passionate about it, and it shows through. It transformed into: Let's go. Let's crush every record. This is our mission, and we're gonna reach it.
No D10 team has ever raised $100,000 before. What gives you confidence in your mission?
We are four very determined individuals. We’re willing to put in the work and get creative to ensure we leave nothing on the table when it comes to reaching our goal. Having now completed all but one of our Sweat Equity [fundraiser] events, we can say with confidence that it was a great success, and an awesome way to get a lot of our friends, family, coworkers, et cetera involved.

How are you, as a team, approaching the athletic side of the competition?
Despite playing soccer my whole life, running was never my favorite aspect of sports. My marquee event is the 500M Row. That's one where I'm ready to sell out.
All four of us are extremely active. Outside of the Sweat Equity classes we host, we haven’t actually trained together (with the exception of Lance and I playing soccer on the same team), but we all know our strengths and weakness and are tailoring our training to what we feel will best prepare us for Game Day.
As much as The D10 celebrates records, we put a major emphasis behind community as well. What's been your experience of The D10 community in your first year as a competitor?
It's been incredible. Being on teams my whole life, it was clear immediately this was a very impressive group of people. The brands that you work with have been incredible.
We've had people from other D10 teams coming to our Sweat Equity classes. Having been to The D5, it was very apparent: we're all one team.
We all want to see everyone succeed.
Bucky and his teammates are closing in on the all-time D10 fundraising record. Help them raise $100,000 for Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center by contributing here. All dollars donated go directly to MSKCC.
