W680 michael hewitt pull ups The D10 Athlete Profile explores what brings competitors to The D10 playing field...and what they bring away from it.

What is your primary motivator for competing in The D10 events?
My primary motivator for competing in The D10 is the chance to take the fight to cancer. No one gets a say in their diagnosis, and even then, there are still limited treatment options. Why not strike first?

How much of your motivation for participating in The D10 stems from its charitable mission?
200%. This is what drives my devotion to The D10.

How did you first get involved in The D10?
Honestly, I don't recall how I first came to learn about The D10. I do remember that the minute I did, I signed up. This was a no-doubter for me.

How has The D10 been different from your collegiate or high school sports experiences in terms of training and motivation?
For starters, with The D10 training we’re instructed on proper form for all movements. By contrast, the only “form tip” I remember from my high school strength coach was “pick a spot up on the wall and watch it while you squat”. That's pretty poor advice, if you’ve ever tried to improve your squat/deadlift. As far as motivation goes, I participated in team sports in school to try and fit in and attempt to be “cool”. My motivation to compete in The D10 is far deeper than that.

In what ways has your participation in The D10 affected or enhanced your performance at work?
The D10 is a great way to generate momentum. That momentum carries over to every part of my life. With momentum comes confidence and energy.

Have you made new lasting friendships, or strengthened your professional network, as a result of your D10 experience?
I’ve been in D.C. since signing up, so I’ve been a lone wolf. However, I'm looking forward to meeting (and beating) my fellow competitors. Al in the spirit of amazing competition.

Michael isn't just competing in The D10 NYC this year, he's singing The National Anthem! Now that's donation worthy. Help Michael reach his fundraising goal to battle pediatric cancer.
