Market: Houston
Athlete: Amin Esmaily-Fard, MD Anderson Cancer Center
It is truly a groundbreaking time in the world of oncology research. With the advent of immunotherapy, complete remission rates upwards of 50-80% are being seen in some of the most difficult to treat cancers. There is no telling what outstanding milestones will be reached in the next 5 to 10 years but one thing is certain, the future of cancer treatment is rapidly evolving for the better. And it is, in part, due to the efforts of organizations and causes such as The D10 that are making this evolution possible. For this reason, it was an absolute honor and privilege to participate in this year's D10!
I would have never heard of the D10 if it was not for my brother, Eman Esmailyfard. His company, Cheniere Energy, has been involved with The D10 Houston since its inception and makes it a priority to sponsor at least 3 teams each year. One of the teams this year needed an additional athlete to compete and Cheniere graciously allowed me to join. I honestly could not have been more thrilled to be part of the event. Always up for a challenge, I trained hard and pushed my body to its limits in preparation for game day. It was remarkable to surpass some of my personal goals while cheering on my teammates to do the same. But of course, our participation in the event would not have been possible without the support of our loving family, friends, and colleagues, who helped the 3 Cheniere teams raise over $20,000!
As a Critical Care Clinical Pharmacy Specialist at MD Anderson Cancer Center, I have witnessed first-hand the toll that cancer can have on the lives of patients and their families. As such, I greatly appreciate the mission of the D10 and cannot wait until next year when we can again take part in this amazing cause!
