Meet the Decathletes: Pierre Le Veaux II
May 5, 2015
1. Please tell us the name of your firm, title, and describe your role in one sentence. I work at Goldman Sachs, as a Vice President-Investment Advisor. My team advises individuals, families, and foundations on their investment portfolios and other balance sheet matters.
2. What are your fundraising and athletic goals for The Decathlon, and what led you to choose them? I would love to reach 40 reps on the bench press and mid 20’s on the pull-ups. Both would be meaningful accomplishments for me. As for fundraising, I would love to raise $4,000 or more.
3. How are you training? Beyond the tough work schedules we all endure as finance professionals, for me it’s been most challenging managing a household with two kids in diapers and trying to competitively train. I get small windows of time, therefore I have to be very thoughtful with my workouts. Recently I started doing some type of daily cardio early mornings such as a quick run, and then weight training in the evenings. I would love to do more or even better yet just get in the gym for a length workout to take care of everything however it’s just not possible. Lastly, with the favorable change in weather I try to get out to the track on the weekends to focus on my speed and endurance.
4. Most Decathletes have participated in mud runs, 5k’s, and triathlons. What differentiates The Wall Street Decathlon experience from those other events? This is my first Decathlon. The biggest athletic feat I’ve ever take on was the NYC Marathon in 2013 and it was phenomenal. I crushed my goal time (sub 4hrs) and as a non-New Yorker it was great running through every borough. That was intentionally my first and last marathon so it will be good to get this Decathlon under my belt as another major milestone. More importantly, I genuinely appreciate the idea that everybody participating in the Decathlon is a “suit” with freakish physical ability! It’s definitely exciting and motivating.
5. What’s the one thing about The Decathlon that you’d share with first-time participants? Just through training with other Decathlon athletes, I noticed that the concepts of teamwork, competition, and intensity are very similar to what you see every day on the floor at any Wall Street firm, therefore it’s certainly manageable for first-time participants.
6. How will you define success for yourself at this year's event? Success comes in the form of executing my training program, performing to the best of my ability (leaving it all on the field), and exceeding my donation goal while creating a group of future donors who will support future Decathlons.
