Eddie Walter: I Wanted to See If I Still Had 'It'

W680 eddie walter d10 june 2018 The D10 Athlete Profile explores what brings competitors to The D10 playing field...and what they bring away from it.

Eddie Walter

2019 Marquee event: 400M Run

What is your primary motivator for competing in The D10 events?
Last year’s biggest motivator was simple: I had not run competitively in many years and wanted to see if I still had “it." By the end of the event ,I felt accomplished and wanted to feel that way again. So I signed up for round two. However, this year is different, because I lost both my cousin and my grandfather over the past six months. I am dedicating my performance to them both.

How much of your motivation for participating in The D10 stems from its charitable mission?
The D10’s charitable mission is a huge motivator for myself in participating and in training. I require all of my donors to pledge on a performance basis. I respect and work to emulate The D10's ambitious charitable goals and am happy to put in time to benefit this charity. Organizations like The D10 truly change the lives of both those who participate, and the children in treatment who are benefiting.

How did you first get involved in The D10?
My dear friend Big Peter De Jianne, a D10 board member, recruited me last year to join his team. I’m sure glad he did

How has The D10 been different from your collegiate or high school sports experiences in terms of training and motivation?
It is vastly different in terms of motivation, because I used to participate in sports mostly out of boredom. These days, I’m lucky if I have 20 minutes for lunch. The D10 motivates me to set the time aside to get the sweat in every single day. Compared to high school and collegiate training, training for The D10 feels truly fun. I feel stronger than ever because of that.

In what ways has your participation in The D10 affected or enhanced your performance at work?
Confidence is key in both The D10 and in the workplace. The D10 provides a great avenue for confidence building in a tough workplace environment like New York City.

Have you made new lasting friendships, or strengthened your professional network, as a result of your D10 experience?
100%. I’ve made multiple friendships and professional connections and hope to continue to get to know more fellow D10 athletes.
