Carly Antonucci
Principal Sales Engineer / Timken Steel
The D10 Houston
Fundraising goal: Team Whatever It Takes ($6,000)
Marquee Event: Pull Ups [Goal 6 Reps]
Second year competitor Carly Antonucci may be a "Jersey girl," but she's clearly adopted Houston as her home away from home. Carly's also a serious D10 competitor. In last year's Houston D10, she obliterated 7 of her 10 goals, including flying 9 inches above her Vertical Jump goal. She's back in 2019, ready to compete hard and fundraise even harder.
What is your primary motivator for competing in The D10 events?
The D10 is a wonderful organization that is raising funds for pediatric cancer research. Pediatric cancer is a horrendous disease that no child should have to suffer through. Any contribution to help find a cure is a huge motivator. I am so lucky to have not had loved ones suffer from pediatric cancer, but there are so many people who've had loved ones affected.
How much of your motivation for participating in The D10 stems from its charitable mission?
100% of my participating stems from the charitable mission. (Donate to Carly's athlete fundraising page.)
How did you first get involved in The D10?
A friend competed in The D10 in a previous year and encouraged me to join along. It was not a hard decision to join the mission.
How has The D10 been different from your collegiate or high school sports experiences in terms of training and motivation?
Coming from a swimming background, The D10 training, being land-based, is very different. But the required drive and motivation is the same as swimming competitively in college. One of my favorite things about The D10 is the motivation and drive shared among all the athletes as we train and strive to achieve the same goals. That team atmosphere builds a family, something I particularly loved during my days as a collegiate swimmer.
In what ways has your participation in The D10 affected or enhanced (or you expect to affect or enhance) your performance at work
While most participants in The D10 are not in the same industry as me, the networking opportunity offered by The D10 community builds a strong foundation. Physically, my stamina has increased training for The D10.
Have you made (or hope to make) new lasting friendships, or strengthened your professional network, as a result of your D10 experience?
Yes, that is an additional benefit of participating in The D10. The friendships gained through The D10 experience may not be directly related to the industry in which we work, but our shared D10 connection forges relationships and builds a lasting community.
Please help Carly help children afflicted with cancer by donating to her D10 athlete page. This motivates our athletes to go above and beyond on Game Day.
