What is your primary motivator for competing in The D10 events?
My motivation comes from my loved ones. I have had many people in my life affected by cancer, one of those people being my Dad. My Dad has always been one of my biggest motivators; he was my Baseball and Hockey coach. He has taught me so much throughout my life. I am fortunate enough to still have my Dad in my life today.
How much of your motivation for participating in The D10 stems from its charitable mission?
100% of this motivation stems from the charitable aspect. When my Dad had cancer it was such a tough time for my family and friends. At that time I was a young man and felt like all I could do was give my Dad support and love. The D10 is giving me the opportunity to not only raise money for an amazing cause, but also providing me the chance to show my athletic ability. The things that make me most happy are when I am able to make a difference in someone's life. I believe the money raised for The D10 will help many people.
How did you first get involved in The D10?
I first heard of The D10 when I started coaching at Tone House in 2014. At the time we had only a couple of coaches involved in The D10. I always wanted to compete, but never committed officially until this year.
Look at that punim. Zack takes his workouts and D10 fundraising seriously!
How has The D10 been different from your collegiate or high school sports experiences in terms of training and motivation?
The intensity of training has been the same in some cases. However I have never been a track athlete. Training for the track elements has definitely been the greatest challenge. As athletes, we all have strengths and weaknesses; it's important to work on turning those weaknesses into strengths. That's track for me.
In what ways has your participation in The D10 affected or enhanced your performance at work?
I believe my training for The D10 this has made me stronger and faster while at work. It has taken a my body through a new routine. I have learned a lot about myself and my physical conditioning throughout this training process. What works and what doesn’t work for me. The D10 training has taught me lessons I can pass on myself as a coach and trainer.
Have you made new lasting friendships, or strengthened your professional network, as a result of your D10 experience?
I believe that I have made some great friendships and bonded with many people through this process. Not only through training, but coaching some of the athletes who are competing. I know of a couple of athletes who committed to The D10 after seeing our Tone House commitment to making a difference. It brings me great joy to see these individuals believe in themselves enough to want to make a difference in the world. It has made my time prepping for The D10 more enjoyable. I am looking forward to seeing my students perform on game day.
Zack's enthusiasm is infectuous! Help Zack and Team Rogue Nation from Tone House reach their cancer charity fundraising goals.
