When I was first presented with the challenge of competing in The D10, I was intrigued. My collegiate soccer career ended in 2010, but I had missed competing so much that I returned to the field in 2014 when an opportunity to play overseas presented itself. I had never been interested in marathons or individual competitions after college. I was drawn to the D10 for several reasons, but the two biggest were the fundraising and team aspects.

Everyone has been affected by cancer in someway, and The D10's support of pediatric cancer research is astounding. My grandfather passed away in 2011 after being diagnosed with leukemia, which gave me an added sense of purpose in this particular competition. Being able to give back at any level is rewarding, but being able to do so in such a unique way with The D10 felt special.

The camaraderie that is developed throughout the preparation for the event and during the event itself is also something I won't ever forget. Since I'm a naturally competitive person, I was nervous about my ability to perform at a high level the day of the competition. The D10's team practices allowed me to not only prepare for the event, but build relationships with like-minded individuals who were working towards the same goal. By the time game day rolled around, I was prepared and excited to put forth my best effort, but most of all I was excited to cheer on my teammates and friends. Needless to say, The D10 was everything it was advertised to be and so much more.

I look forward to participating again next year!
Bring It,
Julie
