I must admit I initially registered for The D10 for the athletic pride to be won. After all was said and done - sure, I was slightly disappointed that I did not come out on top in the women's individual category, but I came to the realization that as a collective, The D10 of San Francisco scored the biggest win of the day.
That victory was raising awareness and funds for pediatric cancer treatment and research for Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford, one of the best children's hospitals in the nation. Like a true competitive athlete, my former collegiate D1 drive was to be number one. Much to my surprise at the end of the day I was incredibly humbled and honored to find that I was the top fundraiser and inducted into The D10’s 10K Club. In that moment I felt a sense of emotion outside anything an athletic arena had ever provided in the past.
Representing not only my company, Paycom, but former female athletes, I wanted to set a precedent for how we can all make a difference together as a community. I was overcome with gratitude from the generosity my community of coworkers, family, and even strangers showed me leading up to the competition. Being a technology sales rep I would like to think it was my persuasive skills, but I know in truth I owe the success to the big-heartedness and support of my fellow elite athletes, high powered business professionals, and loved ones.
The real winners in this athletic competition were the kids.
Cheers to The D10 SF 2016,
Victoria
