UNBROKEN [20.17]

2017 marked the 7th year I have been competing in The D10, and it gets better and better each year. Unfortunately I keep getting older and the competition keeps getting tougher. Like many others, I saw it as an opportunity to get the competitive juices flowing and help balance the endless hours sitting behind a computer each day.
I remember coming into the first year not knowing what to expect. To my surprise, the camaraderie among the participants was amazing. Everyone was on the sidelines rooting for the other competitors even if it meant getting bumped down in the standings. Regardless of everyone’s performance, everyone had one goal in mind – to raise as much money as they could for a great cause.
Going into this year’s NYC D10, I was ready to go. The grueling early morning Tone House sessions during the week and the Saturday morning track workouts led by Ted Towle were all done. The only thing left was a shake-out run and few striders before the Sunday competition. Unfortunately, my body did not cooperate and I ended up pulling my hamstring two and a half days before game day. I tried everything – stretching, ice, compression, massaging, but there was nothing I could do with such short notice. I was bummed that I was only able to participate in a few of the events given the months of work I put into it, but I knew that at the end of the day, the fundraising aspect was the most important.
Being part of the crowd that added over $1 million to the running total of over $9 million since inception was enough to make it all worth it.
Without a doubt I will be back next year looking for some redemption and maybe I can also squeak out a showing in the illustrious $10k Club.
Bring it,
Dominic
