I graduated from the Virginia Military Institute (VMI) in May 2015 having spent the past four years learning first hand the role that leaders need to play in today’s society. I felt compelled to start my life after college by contributing to an organization focused on meeting difficult challenges head on. As I started searching for ways to make an impact, I came across an article on the J.P. Morgan intranet that told me everything I needed to know. It presented The D10 as an opportunity to combine my personal athletic strengths with my broader goal of being a part of a community capable of making a difference. The ideals that I learned in my time at VMI led me to The D10– the time I spent on the football team there gave me the tools to make it happen.

I was hooked from the start.

What has transpired since then has been series of outcomes that I can only describe as wonderfully serendipitous. The more I informed my network about The D10, the more enthusiasm poured in. What started as a way to make a difference has become a part of my identity. The most impactful moment I’ve experienced occurred over dinner with a friend’s family after my first D10 competition. The family made a donation earlier that spring and wished me good luck. I thanked them and went on to focus on the competition. Later, I found out that Memorial Sloan Kettering had saved the father's life after conducting a procedure not yet approved in other cancer treatment centers. This was the dad of one of my best friends...I knew then that I would always be a D10 competitor.

The sheer will to change the realities that we are faced with is unmatched by any other community of people. The overall experience that being a D10 competitor brings is truly unique. The D10 2018 will be my third competition, and I don’t see myself slowing down anytime soon. Each year attracts more and more amazing individuals that can only help progress the D10 movement. I can’t wait to see what we can all accomplish over the coming years – both on and off the field.

Bring it,
Chap
