Joe Giordano
Institutional Consultant/Graystone Consulting (Morgan Stanley)
The D10 NYC
Fundraising goal: Individual (10K)
2019 Marquee event: Bench Press (Goal: 18 Reps)
What is your primary motivator for competing in The D10 events?
My primary goal is to raise over $10,000 for pediatric cancer research. My secondary goal is to show millennials that GenXers like me are good athletes too.
How much of your motivation for participating in The D10 stems from its charitable mission?
99%. If you see me at the event, ask me about the other one-percent.
How did you first get involved in The D10?
I have a number of friends who participate annually in The D10. I'm thankful they pushed me to join. I can't wait.
This is Joe's first D10, but it's hardly his first rodeo.
How has The D10 been different from your collegiate or high school sports experiences in terms of training and motivation?
The accountability to perform well and increase charitable donations makes this different than my athletic experiences in high school and college. Having asked friends to support pediatric cancer research and to follow me on this journey has increased my motivation and discipline. I’m still an active person and I like to challenge myself with goals and events like this often. However, I have changed my workouts to focus on training that will help me in the ten D10 events.
In what ways has your participation in The D10 affected or enhanced your performance at work?
It has improved my focus and discipline. It's also created an interesting topic for me to discuss with clients and other professionals.
Have you made new lasting friendships, or strengthened your professional network, as a result of your D10 experience?
Yes, as expected. Involvement with The D10 has been a great experience and it has helped me strengthen my relationships, both personally and professionally. The D10 season has been an awesome reminder of what great friends I have because they stepped up so quickly to support me and this great cause.
