What is your primary motivator for competing in The D10 events?
The charitable mission makes it a no-brainer to join The D10. The fierce athletic competition is the challenge (and knowing how you are going to feel the day after). I grew up as an athlete and always had an opportunity to be part of a team and train toward a goal. Now that I am working with a fitness related company, the purely personal competitive factor of my training has been removed. The D10 provides that for me once again.
How much of your motivation for participating in The D10 stems from its charitable mission?
It is a huge motivator, especially when people are donating money based on your performance. The charitable component makes it feel more personal, as if you are directly linked to the good people at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. You don't wan't to let your D10 team down, and even more so, you don’t want to let the people of MSK down. That's motivation.
How did you first get involved in The D10?
I was working at Tone House and we hosted workouts for The D10 and also participated as a team. That competition was a real eye-opener for me. I completely underestimated how out of shape I was compared to my high school and college days. I didn’t perform as well as I wanted in that first D10 and now I am out for redemption.

How has The D10 been different from your collegiate or high school sports experiences in terms of training and motivation?
The training feels like riding a bike; physical fitness and training that I grew up doing, just not as fast and taking a lot longer to recover. The D10 family stay on top of their athletes during training, providing motivation throughout and certainly on the day of the event. That's a huge push.
In what ways has your participation in The D10 affected or enhanced your performance at work?
Since I work in a fitness environment, I can recruit co-workers to come train with me or The D10. This has given our work team a great chance to do something fun and inspiring outside of the office.
Have you made new lasting friendships, or strengthened your professional network, as a result of your D10 experience?
I've made some of my closest friendships through my participation in The D10. It is a true community of similar-minded athletes and people. I am happy to encourage others to join.
